Road Test for Adults

You are eligible for an ADULT Road test if you:
1.) are at least 18 years of age. 
2.) have a Texas Learner's License (permit) or Texas Restricted License.
3.) have completed a 6-hour adult driver education course. This course is required if between the ages of 18 and 25. If you are age 25 or older, the course is not required.

Items You Need:
You can test if you have the following items: (Click on the links below for more information.)
1.) Your permit. (DPS has temporarily waived the expiration date if your permit expired after March 15). The receipt will not work.
2.) Adult Driver Education Course Completion Certificate (ADE-1317) if you have a copy. If not, don't sweat it. We can still test you.
3.) Impact Texas Young Drivers Certificate that you get by viewing a one-hour video course independent of your driver education.

4.) A mask to wear while in the car and in the building.
  • You WILL NOT be allowed in without a mask. Click here to see mask details
5.) A black pen for signing documents.
6.) Watch our video on how we will be scoring your driving test by clicking HERE.

Process:
1.) Make your appointment and pay for your Road Test at the blue floating button below.
  • We open appointments two weeks out so if you don't see any openings, check back around two weeks before your preferred date.
2.) Schedule your appointment at DPS for a license "Change/Replace/Renew" or "Service Not Listed"  by clicking HERE
3.) Collect all of the items listed above.
  •  If you have questions about your paperwork, take pictures or scan and send (text) to us at 512-829-7277, and we can give you feedback. 
4.) Watch our videos that show you what to expect during your road test:

5.) Arrive for your appointment ON TIME. We want to make sure we have enough time to work with you.
  • Open the door and let us know you have arrived.
  • We will take your paperwork and review it.
  • We may screen you for health concerns and check your temperature.
6.) Complete your check ride and road test in one of our driver education vehicles
  • vehicles are cleaned between appointments
  • vehicles are equipped with driver education instruction safety features
  • Honda Accord and Kia Soul
7.) We finish up your paperwork and seal your documents in an envelope for you to take to DPS.
8.) Have your paperwork processed at any DPS location in Texas. Take with you a completed application and $11 check or money order.

10.) You may not drive alone until you receive your provisional license from DPS.
