How it Works
Driving Practice and Lesson Requirements for Adults (18-24):
- Take a 6 hour driver education course and pass a written exam on traffic laws and road signs. Most courses give you the tests at the end of the course and print your scores on your completion certificate. (required if you are 18-24; recommended for 25+)
- Obtain an instruction permit
- Although there is no lesson requirement, you can practice with a licensed driver in the front seat with you or take lessons with our licensed professional instructors
- Take the Impact Texas Young Adult course when you are ready for your road test.
Take a driving skills test with a licensed examiner at Wilco Driving School (link to road test page) - Wilco Driving School will upload your documents to DPS if you qualify or give you an envelope to take back to DPS if you don't qualify
- Pay the license fee and get your license

8 1-Hour Simulator Lessons
Practice in a safe environment before getting behind the wheel. Each lesson is one hour. You can schedule up to two lessons back-to-back. The program will also evaluate progress.

Beginner Driver (8 hr Sim & 3 hr BTW)
This package is designed for students who have little or no driving experience. Start with lessons in our simulator to learn the basics and build your confidence and then after your fourth simulator lesson, you can schedule and start taking lessons in the car if you are ready and have your valid permit. If you need more lessons, you can always add more of either type. This package is ideal if you want to start practicing while you wait on your permit appointment or if you have your permit but want to start slowly.

Intermediate Package (4 hr Sim & 4 hr BTW)
This package is designed for students who have some experience but need additional practice or have anxiety about driving. Students take four simulator hours that include becoming familiar with the simulator followed by a customized lesson plan to address specific areas of need. After the second simulator lesson, you can start booking your in car lessons for more practice in the real world with our licensed instructor.

- 4 in car lessons

Advanced Package (2 hr Btw & 2 hr Adv City Driving)
This package is designed for drivers who have experience but want to drive with a professional instructor for fine tuning of skills. If you are about ready to take your road test, need professional practice following an accident or scary driving situation, or maybe starting to drive again after not driving yourself for a while, these lessons are a great way to build your confidence and learn a few things you may have forgotten or missed in your driver education.

Mini Skills Lesson
30 minute in car lesson for students who want to try a lesson before they commit to a package or want a skill tune up before they take the road test. Regardless of what your skill level is, the instructor will work with you and make recommendations for lessons, packages, or the road test if you are ready. This is a great way to try us out and then get a discount on a lesson package if you like what we do or to fine tune your skills before your road test.

Behind-the-Wheel Lesson Advanced City Driving
This lesson is for LICENSED DRIVERS who need practice driving in various environments around the City of Austin. We start at the driving school in Cedar Park and take the freeway to downtown Austin, the Domain area and on toll roads. This is ideal for anyone who needs to build confidence in the fast paced city environment, new drivers who have jobs or school commitments in those areas, or newcomers who want to make sure they understand Texas driving laws and culture.
